28 Jun Great Conversations on the Trail to Bar Canyon
I love the Southern Organ Mountains trails because I feel like I can escape into an outdoor adventure of solitude. But the busiest trails are rarely empty.
Today I had great conversations with fellow hikes on the trail to Bar Canyon. Bar Canyon has a spring and a waterfall like so many of the hikes in la Sierra de la Soledad. People usually call this Soledad Canyon, but if you leave the Soledad Canyon parking area and stay northeast on the trail, you’re headed into Bar Canyon. I’ll explore Soledad Canyon with you soon.
The conversations I had with random hikers today ranged from which peak is which (something I clearly needed help with) to the old Cox Ranch and the process of how the land in these hills transferred ownership and maintenance. It reminded me that sometimes these mountains are better explored with others, even strangers.
Here are a few pictures from the hike today.
